Eastern Gulf of Finland was this season’s main destination. We had not previously sailed east of Helsinki so this area was completely new to us. This area offered some beautiful sheltered archipelagos (for example Pellinge archipelago) for anchoring in natural harbours as well as more open stretches along the coast with some beautiful outer islands located next to the open Gulf of Finland.

Here are some photos from Eastern Gulf of Finland.

Pellinge Archipelago (Porvoo) offered some nice natural harbours for anchoring.
Tied to a rock at Norra Sandö (Porvoo). With our draft (1,8 m), we were two meters short of landfall.
Norra Sandö has some of the best beaches in the area.

Joys of summer
From Pellinge Archipelago we continued to Mustaviiri island (Loviisa).
View over to Russian island of Suursaari (Gogland) located in the middle of the Gulf of Finland.
We anchored in the lee of Mustaviiri island.
There is no pier on Mustaviiri, but boats with shallower draft can anchor at breakwater.
One of the finest nights of the summer (Mustaviiri).

Mustaviiri is part of the Eastern Gulf of Finland National Park.

The first week of June was great with plenty of sunshine and beautiful summer evenings like this.
Virluoto was our turning point for this season. Located about 10 nautical miles from Russian border, it is the easternmost club harbour in our Cruising club’s network in the Gulf of Finland.
After a period of mostly light winds in the beginning of June, we had some fresh headwind when sailing from Virluoto to Loviisa.

Arriving in Helsinki on 19th of June.
